Abstract: Krajub (Trapa bispinosa Roxb.) is a aquatic floating plant found in Thailand. It is used for food which high starch content. This research aimed to study the physicochemical properties of Krajub starch between two different preparations so as to understand and be able to readily apply in phamaceutical and cosmetic products. The powder of Krajub starches were prepared by conventional drying (KJOG) and spray drying (KGSD) methods. The morphology, particle size and size distribution, whiteness, chemical analysis, viscosity and thermal properties of starches were analyzed. The results showed that KJOG had higher variation in shape and morphology than KJSD. The KJOG and KJSD had small size with a range of 1.13-1.28 m. However, the KJSD had narrow in size distriubution when compared with KJOG. The color of KJOG and KJSD were slightly brown and brown, respectively. KJOG showed 5.79% ash, 3.79% moisture, 2.20% fiber, 6.90% starch, 24.78% amylose and viscosity more than KJSD while lower than in fat and protein content. The solubility and swelling power of Krajub starches increased when temperature increased. Amylose in Krajub starches was positively correlated to viscosity. KJSD needed energy more than KJOG to initiate starch gelatinization. %Retrogradation KJOG and KJSD was not significantly diference. These results indicate that Krajub starches provides good physicochemical properties and could be applied in pharmaceutical excipient and cosmetic multi-functional additive ingredient.

Earthquake and Physical Vulnerability Assessment of Existing Buildngs in Urban Areas

Miskat Ara Akhter, Rustam Khairi Bin Zahari

Abstract Earthquakes is difficult to deal with because of it’s multiple impacts on human lives. It has a major ability to degrade an urban physical structure with geological components. The objective of this thesis is to assess the seismic vulnerability including building's physical conditions so that earthquake-prone buildings can be identified and plans to increase awareness among the users can be easily organized. In order to fulfil the objective, seismic vulnerability of Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) structures has been evaluated in the study area using the Turkish method as proposed by the Turkey government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). 240 different reinforced concrete residential buildings were assessed using a checklist. The physical fragility was estimated by an on-site assessment to calculate the Earthquake Risk Score (E.R.S) value of each building. The survey findings were examined by SPSS software with factor analysis. The results revealed that only ten out of 240 structures were considered as high risk, whereas 84 structures were of moderate risk. It is proposed that more methodical evaluations were suggested for such structures before confirming the building as earthquake risk.

Information Security and Knowledge Sharing: A Blockchain Perspective

Kai-Ping Huang

Abstract This study aimed to investigate the various paradigms on which the blockchain technology functions to ensure the highest standards of data transparency and security. Blockchain have been recently gaining much criticism on the grounds of scalability, security, and sustainability at large. However, even though the scholarly interests for the technology practice has increased substantially in the recent years, a comprehensive analysis regarding data security offered through blockchain applications has been severely lacking a systematic elaboration. According to the obtained results from this study, it was apparent that blockchain technology not only holds the potentials to ensure data security better than the traditional ways of information storing and sharing, but also maintains its flexibility to allow further reformations to suffice data security demands in the future.

Improved Deep Learning

Hafsa Raissouli, Samir Brahim Belhaouari

Abstract Deep learning techniques have been used extensively to solve recent complex real life problems. Since the impact of the activation function on the network is crucial, different and robust activation functions have been proposed to improve the performance of deep learning classifier. Once the network is built, the challenge of optimizing the performance of the network arises. This paper presents a new architecture approach for better optimizing deep learning parameters. The proposed activation functions have been tested on four different datasets and achieved an improvement of 2% accuracy over ReLU. The proposed architecture showed an improvement of 2.7% in accuracy and 1.7% in F-measure.

Fusion of Deep Learning and Handcrafted Features for Intra-Race Recognition

Samir Brahim Belhaouari, Athmar N. M. Shamhan

Abstract Although race-based classification of individuals has a major effect on surveillance, categorization of intra-race groups still needs much more precise classifiers. Therefore, most of computer vision methods attempt hard to enhance the recognition level of racial recognition systems, particularly in sub-racial groups. Most of earlier suggested techniques of racial recognition methods concentrated on the use of hand-crafted image features such as Gabor filter and Local Binary Pattern (LBP). Although most of these approaches are fast and straightforward to evaluate on a person's race, they may not sufficiently effective to achieve strong performance especially with intra-race group. The deep learning technique has accomplished state-of-the-art outcomes on challenging computer vision problems, which is proven to be appropriate for improving the capacity of handcrafted characteristics. In order to mitigate the issues mentioned above, we suggest a new hybrid technique for combining deep and handcrafted features for improve the performance on intra-race group. Our proposed method utilizes the convolutional neural network (CNN) method to obtain deep image features and Gabor filter to extract texture features from face images. After fusing the two types of image features, we do the classification task on the resulted hybrid features vector using SVM. Our experiments studies based on two close geographic race datasets show that the hybrid proposed method obtained better performance than that only use single image feature as well as comparable or even outperforms some existing models.

Chelsea Langa, Kengo Nakamura, Noriaki Watanabe, Takeshi Komai

Abstract This study consisted of selecting potential landfill sites in Maputo province where population increased from about 1 million to 2 million from 1997 to 2017. This growth resulted in waste increase and space reduction which are conflicting aspects in the selection of landfill sites. Eight criteria representing geophysical and social characteristics were analyzed on the Geographic Information Systems environment, namely soil, geology, slope, land use, road network, river, lakes and special protection units. Suitability indexes of each layer map where individually analyzed and later overlaid on the ArcMap environment. The maps were classified into 3 degrees, unsuitable, moderate and suitable. Analytical Hierarchy Process was used to measure the degree of importance and weights of each criteria. Finally, results show that 74% of the area is unsuitable, 7 % is moderate and 19 % is suitable. Results indicated that a regional landfill is necessary for the four disctricts to improve their waste management system.

Eslam M.Ramadan, Dr. Tarek M. Abd El-Badia, Amro M. Youssef, Dr. Ahmed E. Hussien

Abstract Carbon carbon composites are used worldwide in high-end braking systems. The system is modeled as stator and rotor under contact. This paper discuss the tribological behavior for c/c composite. The parameters under investigation are reducing the weight loss, increasing service life. Design of experiment is carried out using taguchi method for optimizing the number of experiments. Response surface method is then used to obtain insight about the best combination of operating parameters. Operating parameters were optimized for reducing weight loss based on L9 taguchi orthogonal array design with three input parameters: applied load, rotational speed and time. Finding out the influence of input parameters on two responses (weight loss, coefficient of friction change). Analysis of variables was carried out using anova and regression equations for every response developed. Wear and friction properties of c/c composite were investigated by performing a dry sliding wear using disk on disk abrasive wear test. The Results showed that for weight loss the time at which contact between stator disk and rotor disk was the dominant factor on weight loss then the applied load come in second rank and finally the rotational speed. For friction coefficient the applied load was the dominant factor then speed and then the time.
