On a M/G/1 Queue Subject to Random Breakdowns with General Repair Times and Server’s Choice for Deterministic or General Server Vacations

Kailash C. Madan

Abstract We study an M/G/1 Type queueing system subject to random failures. The customers arrive at the system in a Poisson stream following a compound Poisson process and are server oen by one under the FIFO service discipline. On occurrence of a failure the repairs on the service channel start instantly. The system starts working as soon the repairs are complete. In addition, the server may take a vacation after completing every service. If the server chooses to take a vacation, he has the option of taking a deterministic vacation of constant duration or a general vacation of random length of time. Following the generating function approach, we find interesting steady state results in clear and discrete form.

Modeling the Value of Double Storey Terrace Houses Using Summation Method

Zurina Mahmood, Azhari Yahya and Maheran Mohd Jaffar

Abstract The values of the real estate assets are increasing through the years based on the Malaysian price index. To determine the value of a house one can apply for valuation done by the government body which can be tedious and time consuming or one can hire private appraisers that can be costly and the methods used are different from one another. The purpose of this study is to propose a new valuation model for double-storey terrace houses that can be used for all. The double-storey terrace houses in the state of Johor were used as a case study. In modeling the formula, the land and the physical structure of the real estate asset were determined separately. Land value was obtained by using the TOPSIS method while the physical structure value was by using the cost approach as a basis. Then, both were combined by using the summation method to become a hybrid model. The assumptions of the model were identified. The result shows the valuations are strongly positive correlated with the market prices. In conclusion, this model is suitable for appraising a double-storey terrace house.

Determination of Landslide Zone Vulnerability Based on Soil Property at Puncak Area, Cisarua District, Bogor Regency, West Java Province

Eva Grace, Sofyan Rachman, Harry Pramudito

Abstract Analysis to know the values of liquid limit, plastic limit, permeability, and direct shear, physical and mechanics properties in research area in their ability to handle any loads and force on them, so, by soil bearing capacity values and those aspects can be known safe zone, middle zone, hazard zone. Then, in landslide areas zonation through soil bearing capacity values in research area, gets constituent rocks with different weathering which is obtained from residual soil, that will be analyzed, they are, plastic limit, permeability, physical and mechanics properties, and direct shear to know soil bearing capacity values. So, based on that analysis with highest soil bearing capacity value 346,9086 ton/m2 and lowest value is 8,353747 ton/m2

Photovoltaic (PV) Power Output Prediction Using LSTM Based Deep Learning

Kwanho Kim, Donghun Lee

Abstract Background: The photovoltaic (PV) power output prediction become a very important research topic for overall planning of PV facility systems. In particular, accurate PV power output in a peak zone prediction is important for PV operators who profit by selling electricity obtained from a PV supply operation system. However, prediction of PV power output in a peak zone without meteorological information is considered as a challenging problem since meteorological factors are difficult to determine for a specific area and dynamic and undergo random changes both in a day and across days. Objective: Therefore, in this paper, we propose a long short-term memory (LSTM) based model. The proposed model is aimed at understanding the hidden sequence patterns that correlate historical PV power outputs in a peak zone and their preceding information for precise PV power output in a peak zone prediction. Results: The experiment results demonstrate that the proposed models show more than 10% better performance compared to the conventional models. Conclusion: LSTM based deep learning model is effective to predict PV power, and more sophisticated methods are needed to be developed for further improvements.

Bioactivity of Biocellulose Based Film Incorporated with Cinnamomum cassia and Citrus maxima Oils

Yoice Srikandace, Ivana Giovani, Nina Artanti

Abstract Background: The bacterial cellulose or biocellulose (BC) have been known as a natural, biodegradable and friendly biopolymer. The bacterial cellulose based films have ability as carrier of bioactive compounds such as antioxidant and antimicrobes in order to improve the value of BC film and characteristic properties. In present study, Cinnamomum cassia and Citrus maxima essential oils (EOs) were added into BC slurry containing CMC and glycerol. BC slurry on plates were dried to obtain films containing 1-3 % EOs. Objective: All films were tested for their antioxidant activity using DPPH method and antibacterial activity using dilution and spread methods. Result: All films containing cinnamomum oil still showed antioxidant activity with inhibition of DPPH 85-91% but only a film incorporated with 3% C.maxima showed antioxidant activity (72.71%). All films incorporated with 2-3% EOs also showed antibacterial activity against the growth of Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella thypii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bacillus subtilis. The Total Plate Count colony resulted that all films containing EOs only showed 0-1 bacteria colony compared to BC films possed 1-5 colonies. All compounds of films were still available based on FTIR results. Physical and mechanical characteristics of all films (tensile, elongation, solubility and WVTR) with respect to its structure and physicochemical properties were performed. The SEM analysis showed the fine and smooth surface of films containing EOs but BC film still revealed pores and roughness. Conclusion: The essential oils improved the characteristic of films and proved the usage of films as carrier for antioxidant and antibacterial properties.
