Fractionation distribution and ecological risk assessment of some trace metals in artificial estuary: Vridi channel (Côte d'Ivoire)

Yao Marcel Konan, Trokourey Albert

Abstract BACKGROUND: The modified of Community Bureau of Reference (modified BCR) sequential extraction procedure has been one of common methods used for the trace metals speciation in sediments and allowed to the assessment of the ecological risk state of aquatic ecosystem based on ecological risk indexes. OBJECTIVE: The modified BCR sequential extraction procedure was used to the fractionation distribution of Cd, Co, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn in sediment samples of Vridi channel, and three ecological indexes based on this method were used to assessment contamination and ecological risk state of these sediments. RESULTS: show that Cd, Co and Cu are mostly under their exchangeable form and bound to carbonates (92.07%, 31.20% and 32.02% respectively for Cd, Co and Cu), Pb mostly bond to Fe-Mn oxihydroxides (32.52%) and to organic matters and sulphides (32.21%), Zn mostly under its residual fraction (18.33%) and bond to Fe-Mn oxihydroxides (20.41%) and Ni mostly under its residual fraction (42.06%). These sediments present high contamination and ecological risk states of mainly in Cd, particularly its exchangeable form and that bound to carbonates. CONCLUSION: This present state of Vridi channel is essentially due to the strong anthropogenic pressures doing on this ecosystem. This study deserves to be widened in other hazardous pollutants to establish unequivocal the sanitary state of this estuary.

Effect Of Some Plant Extracts and Nicotinamide on Certain Histopathological Aspects In The Red Palm Weevil Larvae, Rhynchophorus Ferrugineus (Oliver) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)

Karam Hussein, Ibrahim Shoukry, Farag Ahmad and Mohamed Gad

Abstract BACKGROUND The red palm weevil Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Oliver) is a devastating insect pest of date palm, hatched grubs burrow into the trunk and feed on tissue of the stem, larvae and adult emergence within the same stem allow successive generations. However, little studies had applied on the insecticidal effect against the insect. OBJECTIVE In the present study, Larvae of the red palm weevil, Rhynchophorus ferrugineus of the second-generation fed on pieces of date palm core rinsed in sub-lethal concentrations (LC50s) of nicotinamide IGR, in addition to two crude plant extracts of Carapichea ipecacuanha and Eucalyptus camaldulensis, to show their toxicological and histopathological effects on the treated larvae. RESULTS The phytochemical studies showed two major fractions; piperine and rhodopin extracted from Carapichea ipecacuanha; gallic acid and lucenin-2extracted from Eucalyptus camaldulensis. The toxicological studies showed nearable effects and results in nicotinamide and crude extract of Carapichea ipecacuanha, while that of Eucalyptus camaldulensis was the least. The histopathological studies showed hazard malformation in the epithelial layer of the dissected treated larval midgut. CONCLUSION The present study demonstrates that both natural acetonic plant extract of Carapichea ipecacuanha and Eucalyptus camaldulensisis addition to synthetic nicotinamide IGR are capable of production of high mortality rates of Rhynchophorus ferrugineus larvae. The study further reveals that plant extracts and IGR exert effects on larval midgut histology, in this way, disrupt midgut epithelial layer of treated larvae. These disruptions may be the cause of strong larvicidal activity. Very nearable results of both nicotinamide IGR and Carapichea ipecacuanha extract may be due to presence of alkaloid fractions in both.

Decision Tree Based Rainfall Prediction Model with Data Driven Model using Multiple Linear Regression

R.Senthil Kumar and Dr. C.Ramesh

Abstract Meteorological data mining is a form of data mining concerned with finding hidden patterns inside largely available meteorological data, so that the information retrieved can be transformed into usable knowledge. Weather is one of the meteorological data that is rich in important knowledge. The most important climatic element which impacts on agricultural sector is rainfall. Thus rainfall prediction becomes an important issue in agricultural country like India. In this paper, here use data mining technique in forecasting monthly Rainfall of Tamil Nadu. This was carried out using traditional statistical technique -Multiple Linear Regression. The data include the year 2016 collected locally from Regional Meteorological Center, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.
