The Origins of Kelantanese Mak Yong
Mohammad Affiq Kamarul Azlan1 and Lee Suan Chong
Abstract:
Background: Mak Yong is an ancient form of Malay traditional dance theatre combining the elements of ritual, stylised dance
and acting, vocal and instrumental music, romance and comedy in a single presentation and is claimed to be of pure Malay
heritage and has been passed down for more than 100 years though the traditional art is today upheld by less than ten
veteran performers in Malaysia. Objective: The research emphasizes on inter-textual analysis, ethnographic interviews and
observation-participation of Mak Yong performances by considering the viewpoints of both the scholars and the Mak Yong
practitioners as well as classical texts that have possible records of Mak Yong performance in the past. Results: This paper
delves in depth to analyse further the historical origins of Mak Yong with a special focus on the sources of written records as
well as oral tales told from generation to generation. The paper suggests that Mak Yong place of origin as well as how long it
has been existing remain disputable due to limited reliable records on the performance although intellectual assumptions can
be academically drawn. Conclusion: Although the origins of Mak Yong are very much debatable, with neither scholars nor
traditional performers able to validate the place of its actual origin and the precise period of time in which it was established,
this paper has provided some possibilities through thorough analysis of the limited written accounts available as well as from
traditional sources of its history and origins that have been handed down orally from generation to generation.

Abstract
Corporate governance plays essential roles even in a small organization such as cooperative. However, none has studied in
the context of Malaysian budget hotel and accommodation cooperatives. Since tourism and hospitality industry in Malaysia
contributes to the country’s economy, the government has expanded the roles of budget hotels and accommodation
cooperatives within the sectors. The major purpose of this study is to investigate corporate governance practice in the
Malaysian budget hotel and accommodation cooperatives based on the existing guidelines of cooperative governance. The
findings indicated that corporate governance practice is important in the budget hotel and accommodation cooperatives.
Nine domains of corporate governance practice significantly derived in line with the guidelines namely management,
appointment, responsibilities and accountability, information, assessment, remuneration, auditing and control,
communication and principles and values. The findings eventually contribute to the management of budget hotel and
accommodation cooperatives as to sustain the economy and community wealth particularly within the tourism and
hospitality industry.

Zatul Karamah A.B.U, Anis Suhaila Anas, Azwan Abdullah, Zaminor, Siti Salwani Abdullah, Mohd. Khairy Kamarudin
Abstract Risk has always been an important consideration for any investments since it has the direct relationship with return. Although extensive empirical works have been done using various risk quantification, the applications based Value-at-Risk (VaR) on Sukuk issuance are still limited. This paper highlights the association of VaR in determining and comparing risk values between several types of Sukuk issued in Malaysian. In a sample that spanned from year 2011 until 2015, it is found that Sukuk Murabahah illustrated higher VaR quantification in contrast with Sukuk Musharakah.

Abstract
The study evaluates the economic activities and trade facilities in road transportation connecting the border of Thailand,
Laos PDR, Vietnam and China. It involves on tourism industry, exports and imports of goods, facilities and role of government
bodies toward the supply chain management. The trade volumes were growing and supported by structured customs
processes; acceptable infrastructures which enable smooth deliveries, better flow of goods and suitable for small vehicles
movement. The survey establishes with two purchasing patterns by tourism and traders i.e for household consumption and
business purposes. The ratio of transactions recorded to 80% exports and 20 % imports through the checkpoints of Thali,
Luang Prabang Thailand to Vietnam and China. The analysis reveals the improvement on tourism from Laos and Vietnam and
supported by the established bilateral policy in ASEAN. The study also establishes the weaknesses in road infrastructures for
only small vehicles movement, slower inspection by the customs department and instability of rules and regulations in trade
partners. The study uses The SCOR Model to measure the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT). It also
suggests for the better proposal for future establishment in cross border businesses with a systematic approach.

Abstract The feasibility of Wood Polymer Composites (WPCs) on an industrial scale is essential that the performance of WPCs is well characterized, from their production process to the requisites for their various applications in the industrial building construction or furniture industries. WPCs are combination of polymer with different composition of additives such as wood fiber of rice husk (RH). The preparation of the solid WPCs is comprises on the predetermined temperatures for injection molding between 50°C to 220°C at different machine zones. The physical characterization approached on WPCs samples is water absorption test in Ultra-Violet irradiation exposures at 32°C. The WPCs is then were analysed on its morphological changes of the fiber particle size of RH after both treatment. The result shows the highest percentage of water absorption is 2.82% in which increased of RH content lead to increasing the water absorption rate. It directly affects the thickness of WPCs with swelling value of 1.94%. As compared the composition ratio, the highest RH content in WPCs lead to higher density values. Hardness value was decreasing respectively for all WPCs due to increase of immersion hours but with respect to the highest hardness of 14.5kN is from the highest RH content. The study is important in the application of RH filled polymer composites as an alternative material in industrial building construction due to its light weight, renewable and low cost.

Abstract
Vegetable oil know as renewable resources and extensively being used to substitute fossil oil in polymer production. Feedstock of monomer derived from vegetable oils is the main substances in producing renewable polymer which is then cross-linked into solid substances with the ratio of 2:1 (wt/wt ratio of monomer). The functional filler of graphite with an increment of 2% through a slip casting method were added in renewable polymer namely as R, RG2, RG4, RG6, RG8, and RG10. The morphological of thin film polymer composites samples shown the graphite particle is homogenously distributed in the renewable polymer. The viscoelastic properties; stiffness and damping according to modulus and tan delta of renewable polymer and its graphite composites were evaluated using Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA). This revealed the characteristic of the increasing storage modulus with small increment of graphite percentage loading. This is a plausible study of the graphite filled renewable polymer when a small deformation is applied to a sample in cyclic manner is used to monitor the changes of the material properties in term of temperatures dependance.

M. Shafiq M. Azahari, Anika Zafiah M. Rus, M. Taufiq Zaliran, Shaharuddin Kormin
Abstract Polymeric foams and its composites are known as an acoustic material with absorption properties that play an important role in reducing the noise level. The sound absorption properties of polyurethane foam (PU) produced from waste cooking oil polyol (WCOs) incorporated with Red Meranti fiber is conducted to measured its outstanding performance. This paper comprises an experimental study on acoustic properties using an Impedance Tube test of polyurethane closed-cell foam, by incorporating various quantities of waste Red Meranti fiber into the PU matrix. The results revealed the presence of the Red Meranti filler has a major influence on the structure and acoustical properties of the foams. The highest fiber filler percentage loading decreased the pore size of the foams which subsequently influenced the sound absorption coefficients, α. Thus, PU20 with the smallest pore diameter of 653.8 μm contributed highest α value of 0.9888. Evidently, the foam composite obtained have better sound absorption properties compared to PU.

Capital Structure Determinants: The Malaysian Manufacturing Industry’s Evidence
M. Hafiz Ali, A.K.M. Nordin, M.K. Mat, Z. Zoolkefli, N. F. Z. Abidin
Abstract This study examined the relationship and impact of firms’ factors in determining capital structure of Malaysian manufacturing firms. Malaysia’s manufacturing production experienced a huge decline between the years 2008 to 2009 due to global financial crisis, with a production averaged only 5.20 percent from 1991 until 2016. Hence it is important to study the determinants of capital structure as it would help these firms to strategically balance between equity and debt as their source of capital for day-to-day operations and future growth. The developed model indicates that measures of firms’ profitability, size, holding of tangible assets, volatility in earnings and liquidity are enough to determine 72 percent of firms’ capital structure. The result shows that larger firms would favour debt over equity, while firms with higher profit, asset’s tangibility, earnings volatility and liquidity prefer equity as their source of capital. The findings agree with classical theories such as pecking order theory and trade-off theory.
